Montenegro, Program for this year’s Traditional Kotor Carnival

This year’s Winter Kotor carnival festivities will be held from Saturday, February 25 to Sunday, March 5.

As announced on the TO Kotor website, with the raising of the carnival flag, the program of this year’s Traditional Kotor Carnival begins at the Square of Weapons on Saturday, February 25, when the City Music and Majorettes will tour the Old Town. Klapa Šufit will be responsible for a good mood, which will also entertain guests in the Business Center Vukšić, where the “Black and White Redoubt” will be held.

On the same day, there will be a children’s masquerade ball at ŠC Kamelija from 5:30 p.m., and a day later at 4 p.m., a traditional children’s masquerade ball will be held at the Blue Kotor Bay hotel in Prčanj. The carnival raffle Is on the program on Monday, February 27 at ŠC Kamelija.

“Za nas Kotorane” is the name of the event on February 28 from 18:00 in which masked carnivalists will pass through the streets of the Old Town to ŠC Kameli, where the competitive gnocada will be held. On the big stage of the Nikola Đurković Cultural Center on March 2, majorettes and acrobatics group Fešta will have their concert called “We are all Fešta”. The traditional Kotor masquerade ball is planned for March 3 at the Blue Kotor Bay hotel in Prčanj. It starts at 21:00.
The invitation for the big carnival parade will be sent by City Music and majorettes through the streets of the Old Town on Saturday, March 4, from 11 a.m. On the same day, the “Skaljar Dinner” will be held in the House of Culture in Škaljari.

The program of the Traditional Kotor Carnival ends on Sunday, March 5, with a large carnival procession through the main city road, from the open pool to Mace, where the trial and burning of the carnival will take place. At the end of the carnival procession, Ensemble Toć will perform on the main town square, and Jelena Rozga will perform from 7 p.m.

On the day of the carnival, the humorous and satirical newspaper “Karampana” will traditionally be published. The box intended for delivering the texts that make up the content of this paper is located at the Stone Kiosk, in front of the main city gate.

The organizer of the Traditional Winter Kotor Carnival is JU Cultural Center Nikola Đurković Kotor, co-organizer of the NGO Fešta, and the sponsors are the Municipality of Kotor and the Tourist Organization of Kotor.
