Turkey and Montenegro seek to enhance economic collaboration, Turkish Ambassador states

Turkey has been a reliable partner for Montenegro, with ample opportunities to further strengthen these ties, particularly in economic activities, stated the Turkish Ambassador to Podgorica, Bariş Kalkavan.

Kalkavan met with the Minister of Mining, Oil, and Gas, Admir Šahmanović, and both parties agreed that Montenegro and Turkey have enjoyed good cooperation so far, expressing confidence that it will continue in the future.

“Centuries-old diplomatic relations and friendship oblige both countries to diligently continue advancing bilateral relations and alliances across all fields,” it was noted during the meeting.

Kalkavan welcomed new initiatives that, with mutual commitment, could be realized to strengthen the partnership and alliance, as well as to further solidify intergovernmental ties and cooperation.

He thanked Šahmanović for his openness and trust, highlighting Montenegro’s investment attractiveness, which could become appealing to large Turkish corporations through joint efforts.

Šahmanović presented Montenegro’s development projects and priorities of the Ministry, covering both mineral resource exploration and exploitation, as well as the development of the oil and gas sector.

He emphasized the need to create comprehensive strategic documents to sustainably and rationally utilize existing resources.

“The fields of mining, oil, and gas hold significant potential but also present challenges. Our focus is on developing this sector while adhering to the highest environmental standards. Montenegro possesses significant resources, but it is crucial to plan their further exploitation using the latest technologies and the strictest environmental protection standards,” said Šahmanović.

He added that Turkey’s experience in these areas could be extremely beneficial for the Montenegrin administration.

State Secretary Dino Tutundžić also attended the meeting.
