Sixth Wine Salon in Herceg Novi highlights Montenegro’s growing wine culture

The sixth Wine Salon in Herceg Novi, held as part of the Mimosa Festival, marked significant growth in Montenegro’s wine culture, with over 50 wineries from Montenegro, the region, and Europe presenting 500 different labels.

Željko Uljarević, the executive director of Companie de Vinos and organizer of the event, emphasized the growing significance of this annual gathering, which attracts wineries, restaurateurs, and wine enthusiasts. This year’s salon focused on new wines, with three to four new wineries showcasing their products. Uljarević highlighted that educational masterclasses are an integral part of the event, allowing participants to deepen their wine knowledge.

The Wine Salon has become an important part of the tourism offer of Herceg Novi, contributing to the better filling of hotels and creating special packages for visitors. Uljarević also expressed that while progress has been made in the development of wine culture in Montenegro, there is still room for growth, particularly with events like the one held in Portonovi.

International wineries also took part in the event, with notable exhibitors including Ivan Enjingi from Croatia, who has been in winemaking since 1957, and Mirjana Barac from the Frug Winery in Serbia, a young winery gaining recognition for its white wines.

In addition to the wines, visitors could also explore the offerings of eight distilleries presenting over 60 different flavors of gin and whiskey. The salon is open today from 13:00 to 20:00 at Hotel Lazure in Meljine, where visitors can also enjoy local delicacies like prosciutto and cheese.
