Serbia’s market remains key for tourism in Montenegro

Serbia’s market is one of the traditionally most important for Montenegro, stated Montenegro’s Minister of Tourism, Simonida Kordić, during a meeting with Serbia’s Minister of Tourism and Youth, Husein Memić.

According to the Ministry of Tourism of Montenegro, the discussion in Belgrade focused on plans for the upcoming year, collaboration to ease the flow of tourists, simplify procedures and combat the grey economy.

Kordić emphasized that Serbia’s market has always been crucial for Montenegro’s tourism, and highlighted the importance of a unified approach to distant, so-called third markets.

She also reminded that Montenegro and Bulgaria signed the Joint Action Program under the “Balkan Destination” initiative.

Ahead of the winter season, the importance of the signed cooperation agreement between Montenegro Ski Resorts and Serbia was emphasized. The agreement allows users of seasonal ski passes to ski for three consecutive days in both countries’ ski centers, including Kolašin 1600, Savin Kuk, and Vučje in Montenegro, and Kopaonik, Stara Planina and Tornik in Serbia, based on the principle of reciprocity.

Since a Memorandum of Cooperation already exists between the two ministries in tourism, the meeting also discussed reactivating a working group focused on shared challenges and improving bilateral relations.

Attended by state secretaries Vuk Žižić and Petar Drašković, the meeting concluded with an agreement to strengthen the tourism cooperation between the two countries. The session was deemed constructive and fruitful.
