Podgorica’s development should focus on sustainability and long-term goals

The President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, emphasized that the development of Podgorica must be dynamic, sustainable and focused on long-term goals that enhance the quality of life for all its citizens. In his message for the 19th of December, the Day of the Capital City, Milatović stressed that transparent, efficient and responsible governance, coupled with a vision that prioritizes the needs of the people, is key to making Podgorica an even better place to live and work.

“Today, Podgorica faces new challenges and opportunities. Attracting investments, further improving infrastructure, and addressing pressing issues such as the inefficient operation of local enterprises, unplanned construction, and traffic problems must be prioritized in managing the capital,” Milatović noted.

According to him, these steps are essential for the city to develop in a smarter and faster way, reaching the level of modern European cities—a status it certainly deserves, given its importance and historical heritage.

“On this day, 80 years ago, on December 19, 1944, the combined forces of the brave partisan units of the First Bokelian and Tenth Montenegrin brigades dealt the final blow to the occupier, and the banner of freedom was raised over our Podgorica. Their struggle for freedom and anti-fascist ideals continues to shine today, leaving us with the obligation to build a more prosperous future for all citizens of our country based on the principles of freedom, justice, equality, and peace,” Milatović added.

He concluded by wishing that Podgorica continues to be a symbol of progress, development, and prosperity and once again extended his best wishes to all the citizens of the capital city on the occasion of the Day of Podgorica.
