The Pensioners’ Association of Montenegro expressed concern over inflation, which is diminishing the impact of pension increases.
During the Board meeting, the Association welcomed the decision to raise the lowest pensions to 450 EUR starting January 1st, but pointed out that other pensioners, whose pensions are adjusted based on Monstat data, have been neglected.
Branko VeÅ¡ović, the President of the Association, stated that they are worried about inflation’s effect, which is effectively nullifying the increase.
“Many are unaware of the real impact of inflation on their pensions,” VeÅ¡ović said in the statement.
He also emphasized that pensioners with longer work histories have been overlooked.
“Those with 15 years of service are almost on par with those who have 40 years, which we consider unfair. We pointed this out to the Government, the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare and the Pension and Disability Insurance Fund (PIO). While an additional pension increase is expected, the information is inconsistent. Some suggest an increase of seven or eight percent, while others mention a fixed amount of 50 EUR. We also welcome the promise to address proportional pensions,” VeÅ¡ović added.
The meeting also reviewed the results and implementation of this year’s plans and activities, with special attention to preparations for next year’s elections, including the selection of leadership at all levels, the holding of regional annual meetings and the delegation of representatives for the Assembly of the Association, where new leadership, the Board of Directors and the President of the Association will be elected.
