Monteput announces tender for conceptual design of highway section from Virpazar to Stari Bar

Monteput has announced a tender for the conceptual design of a highway section from Podgorica to Bar, specifically for the sub-section from Virpazar to Stari Bar. The value of the procurement is 2.5 million EUR, excluding VAT.

The section is 26 kilometers long, with four interchanges, including toll stations. The expected speed range is between 100 to 120 km/h, and planned features include expanding the maintenance base in Gluhi Do and constructing a viewpoint at Ratac.

The project covers part of the Bar – Boljare highway from the planned interchange near Virpazar to the Stari Bar interchange. The alignment of the route will be adjusted according to available technical documentation, including designs already provided to the chosen contractor.

The previously constructed section, from Virpazar to the southern portal of the Sozina tunnel, has been treated as a highway, with the first phase completed, including the Sozina tunnel and access roads. The project must integrate this already constructed section into the new design, ensuring that the full highway profile is realized without disrupting the existing works.

The designer must focus on several key tasks, including:

  • Expanding the maintenance base at Gluhi Do and ensuring communication access.
  • Modifying the southern portal of the Sozina tunnel interchange to accommodate changes in traffic flow.
  • Revising elements of the highway between the Sozina tunnel and Stari Bar, avoiding residential areas and optimizing horizontal alignment.

The highway is planned to be a full-profile highway, with a design speed of 100 to 120 km/h, improving traffic flow, especially during peak summer months. The project also includes creating new interchanges and connections, such as a connection with the Adriatic-Ionian Highway and fast roads, and several toll stations at key interchanges.

Additional planned facilities include:

  • Expanding the maintenance base at Gluhi Do.
  • A viewpoint at Ratac, near the Å uÅ¡anj tunnel.
  • Firefighting stations and toll collection points at Virpazar, Sozina, Bar, and Stari Bar interchanges.

Once the conceptual design is approved, the exact locations of these facilities will be finalized.
