Under the flag of Montenegro, yachts owned by citizens and companies from 49 different countries are sailing. Among the largest groups of owners are those from Serbia, Russia and Montenegro, as well as from the United States, Switzerland, Italy, and Kazakhstan. The Montenegrin yacht registry also includes vessels owned by individuals and companies from exotic locations such as Seychelles, the Marshall Islands, and Hong Kong.
As of October 1, 2024, a total of 494 yachts have been registered in Montenegro, an increase of 80 compared to the end of the previous year. According to a report from the Maritime Safety and Port Management Administration, which published the list of registered yachts up to October 1, 2024, of the 494 yachts, 149 are owned by citizens or companies from Serbia, making up nearly a third of the total.
This year, Serbian citizens have surpassed Russian nationals in the number of registered yachts. Serbian owners are now in second place with 125 yachts, while Montenegrin citizens own a total of 69 vessels. Other countries in the top rankings include Ukraine and the United States, each with 18 yachts, followed by Bosnia and Herzegovina with 13 yachts and Germany with 8 registered vessels.
In terms of ownership type, private individuals dominate the registry, owning 402 yachts, while legal entities or companies own 92 yachts. Among these companies are numerous businesspeople from Montenegro and the surrounding region.
The registry also lists several companies owning multiple vessels. The largest company, SAIL SERVICE INC., has registered 7 yachts, followed by BLL AQUA DOO with 4 yachts. Other prominent companies include BANEVANA LTD and RANEXCOM OU, each with 3 yachts.
Today, yachts under the Montenegrin flag are owned by citizens and companies from as many as 49 countries worldwide. Interestingly, some of the countries represented include exotic locations such as Vanuatu, Seychelles, the Marshall Islands, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Kuwait, and Hong Kong.
In Montenegro, yacht registration is regulated by laws and regulations governing maritime traffic and the registration of vessels. Yachts can be registered by Montenegrin citizens, as well as foreigners, provided they meet legal requirements and have residency or a place of stay in Montenegro, as well as foreign companies with a registered branch or business activity in the country.
