Montenegro’s foreign trade in goods for the first half of 2024 reached €2.22 billion, showing a 0.6% increase compared to the same period last year, according to preliminary data from Monstat.
Exports totaled €287.9 million, a decrease of 24.5% from the previous year. Conversely, imports amounted to €1.93 billion, reflecting a 5.9% rise compared to the same period in 2023.
- The ratio of import coverage by exports was 14.9%, down from 20.9% in the same period last year, Monstat reported.
Mineral fuels and lubricants were the leading exports, valued at €61.9 million, including €50 million in electrical energy and other products.
On the import side, machinery and transport equipment were the largest categories, totaling €493.1 million. This included €192 million in road vehicles and other items.
The top export partners for Montenegro were Serbia (€86.3 million), Bosnia and Herzegovina (€18.6 million), and Switzerland (€16.9 million).
For imports, Serbia was the largest supplier, with goods valued at €324.8 million. China followed with €229.1 million, and Germany ranked third with €199.5 million in imports.
Montenegro’s foreign trade was predominantly with CEFTA countries and the European Union.
