EPCG approves project to connect Krupac and Slano lakes

The Board of Directors of Elektroprivreda Crne Gore (EPCG) has approved a proposal for a project aimed at optimizing the waters of Nikšić Field. This initiative marks the first phase of transferring part of the Zeta River’s waters into the Krupac and Slano lakes, specifically focusing on connecting the two lakes. The decision includes issuing a comprehensive public invitation and signing contracts for project innovation and construction work, as announced by EPCG.

The estimated investment for connecting Krupac and Slano lakes via a hydraulic tunnel is approximately €10.4 million, funded through loans.

The commencement of the main construction works will depend on hydrological conditions. Preliminary assessments suggest that the project could begin in the second half of 2025, following the preparation of project specifications, public invitations, contractor selection, contract signing, and obtaining the necessary construction permits, including environmental impact assessments.

EPCG highlighted the project’s benefits:

“This long-awaited project will significantly improve the production performance of the Perućica Hydroelectric Power Plant and contribute to addressing the frequent flooding issues of the Zeta River,” they stated.
