Montenegro’s success in implementing certain World Bank instruments was highlighted by Ana Bjerde, the World Bank’s Director of Operations, during a meeting with Prime Minister Milojko Spajić at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
The discussion acknowledged Montenegro’s significant economic reforms, which have not only restored the confidence of financial institutions but also positively impacted citizens’ living standards. The increase in the minimum and average wages has been achieved through tax reforms.
“One of the World Bank’s recommendations from 2019 was to reduce labor taxes, which we have developed and implemented. We reached this solution through intensive social dialogue that included all stakeholders, which allowed the proper implementation of the Europe Now programs,” said Prime Minister Spajić.
He thanked Director Bjerde for the World Bank’s expert and financial support for the country’s projects and expressed hope for continued commitment in the implementation of the adopted Partnership Framework, in line with Montenegro’s efforts for inclusive growth, green economy, strong governance and progress toward EU integration.
It was also noted that the tender process for Montenegro’s airports would be finalized with the support of the IFC, a part of the World Bank.
One of the topics discussed was the optimization of public administration and finding appropriate solutions to reward those who perform well, meet expectations, and deliver results.
