Montenegro aims to boost public administration and economy with artificial intelligence initiatives

The government recognizes the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) and intends to utilize it to enhance public administration, accelerate economic development and contribute to societal progress, announced Marash Dukaj, the Minister of Public Administration.

“At the EU level, the AI Act was adopted in May this year, and Montenegro, as the most advanced in its integration with the EU, must align its regulations with EU legal frameworks,” Dukaj stated during the opening of the AI conference organized by the World Bank.

He highlighted that AI is rapidly developing and integrating into all sectors of society.

This technology has the potential to significantly improve public administration by delivering faster and more efficient services to citizens, reducing bureaucracy, and enhancing transparency.

“AI can enrich citizens’ everyday lives through personalized services and better resource management, while also creating new opportunities for innovation, optimizing business processes, and generating new jobs,” Dukaj explained.

He noted that the two-day workshop represents a crucial initial step toward implementing AI in Montenegrin institutions, emphasizing its necessity.

“Alongside the World Bank, we are making a strong commitment to incorporate AI technologies into our business processes. This also marks the first step in developing AI technologies, specifically laying the groundwork for Montenegro’s inaugural AI Strategy,” Dukaj added.

The Ministry of Public Administration will spearhead the creation of Montenegro’s first AI Strategy, aiming to unlock its full potential, Dukaj announced.

“This is the start of an important journey for Montenegro in developing a comprehensive AI strategy, and this workshop lays the foundation for the future of AI in our country,” concluded Dukaj.

The Ministry, in collaboration with the World Bank under the BEST project, will establish the strategic direction and roadmap for AI development in Montenegro, focusing on readiness to tackle potential challenges and harness the benefits that this field presents.
