Montenegro’s electricity transmission system (CGES) and the electricity exchange have gained initial access to the Italian Borders Working Table (IBWT) Working Group, meeting a crucial requirement for integrating Montenegro’s electricity market with the European Union’s unified market.
The Ministry of Energy announced that this access will allow Montenegrin institutions to review IBWT documentation, which includes operational agreements, high-level market design and contractual architecture.
This move paves the way for managing processes leading to market integration and for activities that will follow once integration is complete.
“This marks a significant step in synchronizing Montenegro’s market with Europe’s and applying EU standards in Montenegro, clearly demonstrating the country’s readiness to continue its European integration journey, as well as the EU’s willingness to accept Montenegro as an equal partner,” the statement concluded.
