Montenegro pursues railway connection between Podgorica and Airport through WBIF funding application

The Ministry of Transport and Maritime Affairs has submitted a funding application via the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF) for the construction of a railway linking Podgorica to the Airport, reports CdM.

CdM has learned that the outcome of this application will be disclosed in June. The primary objective is to establish a railway connection between Podgorica and the airport.

Despite being the capital of a tourist destination, Podgorica currently lacks a public transportation link to its airport.

For travelers, particularly tourists arriving at Podgorica Airport, taxis have been the sole means of transportation to connect to the capital.

The WBIF initiative supports the socio-economic advancement and EU integration of Western Balkan countries, including Montenegro, by facilitating funding and technical assistance for crucial investments.

This collaborative effort involves the EU, international financial institutions, bilateral donors, and governments across the Western Balkans.

WBIF’s scope encompasses financing and technical support for pivotal projects spanning energy, environmental conservation, social welfare, transportation, and digital infrastructure. Additionally, it fosters initiatives aimed at bolstering the private sector.
