Montenegro approves €1.62 million for Port of Bar infrastructure upgrade

Montenegro has been approved for the Port of Bar modernization project, worth €1.62 million, under the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF) technical support program.

Minister of Maritime Affairs, Filip Radulović, stated that the project aims to improve port infrastructure and enhance the railway connectivity of Bar Port. It includes the preparation of studies, technical, environmental, and tender documentation for key infrastructure components.

“The project involves creating complete technical documentation for deepening the port’s water area, expanding the quay of the terminal, reconstructing the electrical power supply system, and constructing a closed port warehouse,” Radulović said.

He emphasized that the development of a conceptual project for deepening the port’s water area is of particular importance, as it will enable larger vessels to dock and improve the port’s competitiveness.

The project will also focus on improving railway infrastructure within the port and developing multimodal transport in Montenegro. In this regard, a main project will be prepared for the reconstruction of the railway network within the port and the railway access from Bar station to the port border.

“Port of Bar remains committed to modernization and development, aiming to become a key transport and logistics hub for the region,” Radulović concluded.
