Montenegro halts privatization in 2024 to protect state-owned enterprises

In this year, there will be no privatization of enterprises, and this is a crucial step towards preserving state-owned companies of national importance, said Prime Minister Milojko Spajić.

He stated on social media platform X that this decision was made at the second session of the Council for Privatization and Capital Projects.

“This is a crucial step towards preserving state-owned companies of national importance,” Spajić said.

The Government announced that the Council for Privatization and Capital Projects determined the Privatization Plan for this year at today’s session.

It was noted at the session, they said, that there are better solutions than privatization for certain state-majority-owned enterprises.

“We will not proceed with privatizations this year; what has been done so far has not been satisfactory,” Spajić stated.

Srđa Keković, President of the Union of Free Trade Unions, welcomed the government’s decision, adding that he is pleased that the time has come for companies of national importance to remain in state ownership.
