The Montenegrin Parliament has passed significant amendments to the Labor Law, which will now allow employees to receive permanent contracts after 24 months, down from the previous 36 months.
The change was approved unanimously by all 57 present MPs, with no abstentions or dissenting votes.
Early retirement for Port workers enacted
In a related development, the Parliament has also unanimously adopted changes to the Law on Pension and Disability Insurance. The new provisions allow port and transport workers at the Port of Bar to retire after 25 years of service, including a minimum of 15 years working in hazardous conditions.
This decision follows a proposal from the Socialist People’s Party (SNP) which highlighted the physical and mental challenges faced by these workers. Their roles involve handling potentially dangerous materials, such as heavy metal concentrates and explosives, which pose long-term health risks despite stringent safety measures.
The amendments aim to provide fair retirement options for workers engaged in high-risk jobs, acknowledging their contribution and the demanding nature of their work.
