Minister announces termination of Brskovo mine project

The project to exploit the Brskovo mine has been officially halted, as confirmed by Minister of Mining and Geology, Admir Šahmanović. He reiterated his previously expressed views on the matter.

Šahmanović sought to clarify his position to ensure the public receives accurate information, addressing concerns raised by a headline that, unfortunately, caused unnecessary alarm, likely due to the journalist’s intent to create a sensational story, reports Biznis CG.

According to Šahmanović, the Ministry of Mining’s primary role is to develop the exploitation of Montenegro’s rich mineral resources.

“What I emphasized in discussions, and this applies beyond just Mojkovac, is that these projects must be developed in close collaboration with local communities, ensuring they are economically sustainable and environmentally responsible,” said the Minister.

He expressed confidence that, with careful and responsible planning, the mining sector can significantly contribute to Montenegro’s economic development.

“To this end, we are working on a strategy that will provide clear answers and guidelines, first identifying the true potential of our resources and then determining the best methods and technologies for their exploitation,” Šahmanović explained.

He added that Montenegro is moving forward with the construction of the Bar-Boljare highway, planning the Adriatic-Ionian expressway, and developing numerous infrastructure projects not only in transportation but also in energy. These projects require raw materials that Montenegro possesses.

“It would be highly irresponsible and economically unwise not to utilize our domestic resources, and relying on imports would be equally unjustifiable,” he emphasized.

Šahmanović expressed regret if, in the pursuit of sensationalism and online engagement, such a misleading headline was published, whether intentionally or out of ignorance.

“Regardless, the ministry I lead is always available to clear up any misunderstandings and respond to public inquiries, especially on issues important to local communities and the entire country,” Šahmanović concluded.
