Kotor-Lovćen cable car: Celebrating 100,000 visitors and paving the way for future tourism projects

The Kotor-Lovćen cable car, which has welcomed over 100,000 visitors this season, is hailed as a successful tourism project, according to Tourism Minister Simonida Kordić.

“It’s remarkable that the cable car has transported more than 100,000 visitors this season. This success serves as a model for how similar investments in other parts of Montenegro can be leveraged, as well as for future tourism projects,” Kordić stated during her visit to the cable car.

She highlighted that additional amenities, such as the bobsled ride, cycling options, and the presence of cafes and restaurants, are essential for meeting the expectations of today’s tourists.

“This approach should be considered when evaluating potential in other areas of Montenegro. Given the sensitivity of winter seasons, especially with global warming impacting snowfall, it’s wise to develop additional attractions alongside the cable car that offer unique appeal to tourists. These attractions require minimal infrastructural investment but contribute to a modern and attractive tourism offering,” Kordić added.

Marco Cus, the director of the Kotor-Lovćen cable car, expressed his satisfaction with the visitor turnout and the support from the Ministry of Tourism.

“The results and the global reputation we’ve built confirm the cable car’s status as a significant infrastructure project in tourism. We are excited to have shared our plans for the future development of the cable car and its complex with the Minister and her team,” Cus said.

Kordić also discussed the potential of a similar project at Žarski near Mojkovac and the importance of connecting to the Bijelo Polje area.

“The implementation of this cable car project, along with the construction of a bridge over the Tara River, represents an opportunity to create a year-round tourism destination in that region,” Kordić concluded.
