The Ministry of Agriculture, led by Minister Vladimir Joković, is focused on enhancing investment measures and rural development, aiming for a more substantial budget and increased support for agricultural initiatives. As of September 30, 2024, Montenegro has funded 605 projects, receiving €38.80 million in support, including €29.10 million from the EU.
New non-refundable EU funds through the IPARD III program (€63 million) are expected to boost domestic production and reduce imports. The agricultural budget implementation is on track, with significant payments anticipated in the fall, reflecting the needs of farmers impacted by recent damages.
To support small farmers and encourage youth involvement in agriculture, the Ministry offers higher financial support to young and female producers. Infrastructure improvements are also a priority, with ongoing funding for local projects.
Montenegro’s new agricultural strategy aims to increase exports while reducing food imports, emphasizing quality standards and marketing for local products. The “Strength is in All of Us” campaign promotes the purchase of domestic goods, highlighting economic benefits.
In response to the Q fever outbreak, the Ministry is closely monitoring the situation and will provide full compensation for affected livestock. Overall, the Ministry is committed to strengthening the agricultural sector and enhancing rural development.
