IMF assessment confirms commitment to transparency by Central Bank of Montenegro

Preliminary findings from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission regarding the assessment of the Central Bank Transparency Code indicate a strong commitment and significant progress by the Central Bank of Montenegro (CBCG) in implementing transparent policies, according to IMF team leader Cecilia Melo Fernandes.

Governor Irena Radović and her team held a final meeting today with the IMF delegation, which visited Montenegro to conduct the Transparency Code Review (TCR).

The CBCG sought this evaluation to further enhance transparency, accountability to key stakeholders, and to improve the effectiveness and visibility of its policies.

Fernandes commended the efforts of the CBCG, noting that the preliminary findings confirm the bank’s dedication and advancements in promoting transparency.

Radović expressed her satisfaction with the collaboration with the IMF team, emphasizing the critical role of transparency in building trust between the Central Bank, citizens and all stakeholders.

“The CBCG is committed to further enhancing its practices to strengthen accountability, efficiency, and openness. The recommendations from the IMF will provide valuable guidance as we continue to develop as a modern and responsible institution,” Radović stated.

The final TCR report, which will include recommendations for improving the CBCG’s transparency practices, is expected by the end of the year.

The IMF mission, which took place from September 11 to 24, included a series of meetings with representatives from the CBCG, government institutions, the financial sector, and other key stakeholders.
