The construction of the Gvozd wind farm on the Krnovo Plateau in Montenegro has officially begun with the laying of the foundation stone, symbolizing progress towards a sustainable future. This project is the first major energy production facility to be built by Elektroprivreda Crne Gore (EPCG) in over 40 years.
EPCG has signed a contract worth €46.4 million with the German company Nordex, which will supply, install, and maintain the wind turbines. Nordex, which has already established a presence in Croatia and Serbia, is entering the Montenegrin market through this partnership.
The wind farm will have a capacity of 54.6 MW and is expected to produce around 150 GWh of electricity annually, powering approximately 25,000 households. The project is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 104,000 tons, equivalent to the emissions of 62,000 cars. The total value of the project is €82 million, financed through a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
The project will be completed over 18 months, and includes infrastructure such as a transformer station and power lines. It will contribute significantly to Montenegro’s energy balance and help meet future energy demands while promoting green energy development.
EPCG’s executives expressed pride in the project, emphasizing its importance for Montenegro’s energy future and its potential to contribute to the region’s renewable energy goals.
