Carrefour to enter Montenegro market following expansion plans by Retail and More

Retail and More, a Greek company that holds the Carrefour license for Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia, North Macedonia and Albania, has secured exclusive rights to represent Carrefour in Montenegro.

According to Retail Serbia, Carrefour will initially focus on expanding in Serbia, the largest market in the Western Balkans, following the completion of its first expansion phase in Bulgaria and Greece. Montenegro is expected to be the final country for Carrefour’s expansion in the region.

Retail and More is currently experiencing strong sales growth in Greece, with new Carrefour stores opening across Bulgaria. Carrefour’s headquarters in France has announced plans to open ten new markets with its partners over the next two years.

The company is also developing two new store formats in Greece and Bulgaria that cater to modern, efficient shopping needs. Additionally, Retail and More is exploring the launch of the Supeco discount chain, for which it holds all the rights under agreements with the French group.

While Carrefour is planning long-term growth in Montenegro, the entry of German retailer Lidl is imminent, and Italian retailer Conad has also announced plans to enter the Montenegrin market.
