The decline in tourist numbers this year compared to last should act as a wake-up call for the government. Instead of taking extended breaks, the government should focus on identifying and addressing the issues affecting the tourism sector to prepare for the next summer season. This is the view of Vlastimir Ristić, entrepreneur and founder of the European Progress Party.
Ristić highlights that the Ministry of Tourism has reported an 8% drop in physical indicators for the season, while financial flows have remained at last year’s level. This suggests that the disparity is largely due to inflation. The most troubling aspect, according to Ristić, is the Ministry’s claim that the results are satisfactory.
He argues that the European Progress Party would never consider these results as satisfactory because they are not adequate.
“It is crucial to tackle the urgent problems we face. We need to identify them, understand them thoroughly, and collaborate with stakeholders in the tourism industry and those involved in our tourism products. This will enable us to begin addressing these issues and preparing for the next season immediately. We cannot afford to waste time,” Ristić emphasizes.
Ristić insists that time must be used efficiently.
“We must focus on ourselves right now. There is no room for long vacations for the government and its officials, as is currently happening. During the season, we must prioritize our tourism product. This is a change we aim to achieve through our political efforts, and I hope we will succeed with your support,” Ristić concluded.
