The public enterprise for managing maritime assets has reported a steady increase in ferry traffic. In July, their fleet transported 239,243 vehicles of all types, reflecting a 3% rise compared to the same month last year.
Captain Aleksandar Crvenko, Head of the Maritime and Coastal Transport Sector at Morsko Dobro, told Novski Portal that daily ferry operations across the Bay of Kotor handled between 7,000 and 8,000 vehicles.
“August has started off strong as well. We currently have six ferries in operation, with two smaller ones, Perast and Kamenari, on standby in case of any issues. While May and June were significantly better, July also showed an increase in traffic, though not as high as we had hoped,” Crvenko explained.
In the pre-season months of May and June, more than 541,000 vehicles crossed between Kamenari and Lepetani, marking a 13% and 66% increase compared to the same period last year.
Crvenko mentioned that the season is proceeding without major delays or long wait times for boarding. However, occasional traffic accidents can lead to extended waits when traffic is suddenly released.
The ferry crews have become accustomed to the routine of operating day and night, particularly with the largest ferry, “Ruka pravde.”
Morsko Dobro, which has taken over the ferry operations from Pomorski Saobraćaj, has mobilized 120 employees for shore operations, ticketing and at their office in Lepetani, provided by the local community.
