Elektroprivreda Crne Gore (EPCG) has signed a contract with the “Jaroslav Černi” Institute for the development and execution of detailed geological works for the Kruševo hydroelectric power plant (HPP). This marks a significant step forward in achieving the vision of sustainable energy development in Montenegro.
EPCG emphasized that the signing of the contract reaffirms their commitment to energy security, sustainability, and the development of domestic resources. The agreement was signed by EPCG’s CEO Ivan Bulatović and the Executive Director of the “Jaroslav Černi” Institute, Dejan Vučković, thus launching a new phase in the realization of this priority project in hydroenergy.
The Kruševo project, with an installed capacity of 82 MW and an estimated annual production of 170 GWh, represents a strategic investment that will strengthen Montenegro’s energy system. Based on a study of the hydroenergy potential of the Piva River, which was adopted last year, HE Kruševo has been identified as the optimal solution for utilizing water resources in the upstream location, entirely within Montenegro’s territory.
This project will not only increase the production of clean energy but will also contribute significantly to providing system and ancillary services for grid stability, thus enhancing Montenegro’s and the region’s energy security.
The importance of HE Kruševo is further affirmed by EPCG’s strategic partnership with the French company EDF, a global leader in the energy sector. The memorandum of understanding signed on September 20th opens the door for intensive cooperation and exchange of expertise in both hydroenergy and renewable energy sources.
The contract signing was attended by EPCG’s Director of Development and Investments, Ivan Mrvaljević, Project Manager Nebojša Grbović, and representatives from the “Jaroslav Černi” Institute, including Srđan Kostić. All parties expressed optimism regarding the next steps in the realization of the project.
