Milutin Đukanović, Chairman of the Board of Elektroprivreda Crne Gore (EPCG), assured that Montenegro will not face electricity shortages this summer, even as the country experiences record temperatures and increased electricity demand due to air conditioning. In an interview on RTCG’s morning program, Đukanović highlighted that electricity consumption this year has risen significantly compared to the same period last year.
“Electricity supply remains stable, and we have secured adequate resources to meet demand. It’s crucial to make strategic purchases of electricity. While we guarantee reliable service, any unexpected failure in our production facilities, such as the Pljevlja or Piva power plants, could have serious consequences. We are hopeful that such issues will not arise, and our engineers are working hard to maintain the equipment,” Đukanović explained.
He also noted that in June, daily electricity consumption reached 12 gigawatt-hours. Considering that the Pljevlja power plant produces slightly less than five gigawatt-hours per day, the summer period relies heavily on this facility. “Currently, the Pljevlja power plant is almost the sole source of electricity during the summer months,” Đukanović concluded.
