The Prime Minister of Montenegro, Milojko Spajić, met in Podgorica with Matteo Patrone, the Vice President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The EBRD representatives expressed their readiness to significantly participate in the government’s efforts to improve transportation connectivity, develop the energy and tourism sectors, and support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s office, the central topic of the discussions was the implementation of major projects. EBRD officials confirmed their willingness to actively engage in the government’s initiatives aimed at improving transportation infrastructure, the energy and tourism sectors, and boosting the SME sector.
Patrone noted that the results of the reform processes on Montenegro’s path to the European Union were visible, and emphasized the importance of encouraging further EBRD investment in the country.
Spajić highlighted that the second section of the highway would ensure more balanced development and bring new life to the northeastern part of the country, which was also acknowledged by the EBRD.
“It is crystal clear to us how strategically important it is to open up the northeast to the rest of the country, and we fully support you in these projects. You can count on us to continue supporting all other transportation initiatives as well,” Patrone stated.
Spajić added that in addition to improved transportation connectivity, the economy would also benefit from the reconstruction of the railway, the development of the Port of Bar, and the expansion of the country’s airports.
He also presented opportunities for collaboration in energy, tourism, and agriculture—sectors that offer significant growth potential for small and medium-sized enterprises, particularly in the north of the country.
In this context, it was concluded that supporting SMEs is currently a key focus for the EBRD.
