Montenegro and Turkey look to strengthen economic ties and increase investments

Montenegro and Turkey already share strong economic relations, but with growing interest from Turkish entrepreneurs, there is significant potential to further enhance these ties, according to Nina Drakić, President of the Chamber of Commerce of Montenegro (PKCG), during a meeting with a business delegation from Bursa.

Drakić emphasized the important role of the PKCG in advocating for the business community, shaping favorable business conditions, and fostering international cooperation.

“We are pleased to see the increasing interest from Turkish entrepreneurs in Montenegro. While our countries already have solid economic relations, the interest from Turkish businesses shows there is still considerable room to strengthen these ties. Our goal is to attract investments in diverse sectors,” Drakić said, during her meeting with the RUMELISIAD business association delegation, led by President Murat Evke.

Drakić noted that Montenegro is particularly attractive to foreign investors in sectors such as tourism, energy (with a focus on sustainable sources), the potential for a direct electricity connection to the EU via an underwater cable, transport infrastructure development, food production, and wood processing.

“Montenegro’s low fiscal burden makes it highly competitive for foreign investment compared to the rest of the region,” Drakić added.

Evke and his delegation introduced RUMELISIAD, a business association founded in Bursa in 2006, which represents over 300 members across 11 countries. These members employ more than 55,000 people across 26 sectors and have invested millions of dollars in 38 countries, generating over USD 1.5 billion in trade. “The purpose of our visit is to explore potential investment opportunities and to learn more about the benefits that Montenegro offers for business development,” they stated.

The delegation also presented Bursa as an important industrial hub, responsible for about one-third of Turkey’s exports. Bursa is a major center for the automotive industry, textiles, agriculture, and tourism.

The participants agreed that collaboration between the Chamber of Commerce of Montenegro and RUMELISIAD should be strengthened in the coming year, with plans to organize meetings between Montenegrin and Bursa entrepreneurs. These meetings will aim to identify potential joint business projects and establish bilateral cooperation between companies.

The meeting was also attended by Dragoljub Bulatović, advisor to the President of the PKCG, Gzim Hajdinaga, Director of the Center for the Preservation and Development of Minority Cultures in Montenegro, and Nihal Sevük, the Trade Advisor at the Turkish Embassy in Montenegro.
